China opens world's largest Single-Capacity PV Power Plant

China has successfully linked its largest single-capacity solar power facility, the Mengxi Blue Ocean Solar Power Station, to the national grid. Built on a coal mining subsidence site, this innovative plant is designed to generate 5.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually—enough to power two million homes.

This initiative is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 4.7 million tons per year, an environmental benefit comparable to planting 62,700 hectares of trees or saving 1.71 million tons of standard coal. The project delivers notable social, environmental, and economic advantages.

The Mengxi Blue Ocean Photovoltaic Power Station is a key component of China's national West-East Power Transmission and Western Development initiative. It is located in Otog Front Banner, Ordos, Inner Mongolia.

Equipped with over 5.9 million solar panels, the power station boasts an impressive capacity of 3 million kilowatts of electricity generation.

Strategically situated in a desert, Gobi, and wasteland temperature zone, the facility exemplifies efficient large-scale solar development. It also hosts China's first large outdoor photovoltaic testing facility, further supporting advancements in solar technology.
